TRMS Montessori Schools’ lower Elementary program accommodates children aged 6 to 8 in the same classroom. This 6 to 8 year-old mix represents a congenial and gregarious social group, with role modeling and motivation being provided to the younger students by the older ones. The strong social bonds, which develop, allow for a smooth work effort.

Throughout the day, children at the elementary level may be seen building time lines, recording science experiments, writing book reports and compositions, solving mathematical problems, or working on the computer, performing in a dramatic presentation, or expressing themselves musically. Another group may be gathered in quiet concentration with their teacher, discussing the wonders of Ancient Egypt, or perhaps resolving a problem within their classroom community.

The elementary classroom is established as a miniature community where children work individually while co-operating with the group. The children are encouraged to strive and become responsible for their own behaviour and in so doing, they help their community by observing the rules necessary for peaceful, constructive co-existence.

As the students progress through the elementary program, they depend more on auditory and visual experiences, as they move away from concrete to more abstract concepts. French, Spanish, music, art appreciation and physical education are all part of the regular curriculum. The students also participate in a structured off site library program.

The physical education curriculum includes off site programs of eight weeks each for swimming, skating, and gymnastic and onsite programs for yoga, martial arts and dance.

The Elementary class participates in eight curriculum based extra curricular activities/field trips.
